Hassan Yebda: “It's just a fantastic draw for us â€
Algeria's international Hassan Yebda
Algeria has been drawn Friday with Slovenia, USA and England in Group C of next summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
-
Rabah Saadane’s men were very happy following their qualification to the World Cup. However, they must think first about the African Cup of Nations.
-
Algeria’s international Hassan Yebda told the BBC it is exciting to play for the first time in such large competition.
-
“I’m excited because it may be the only opportunity in my life. The draw was good with Slovenia, USA and England. It would be very difficult, as England has very good players like Gerard and Rooney”.
-
“The US team showed a good performance during the confederation cup and it is also a dangerous team”.
-
“We have to play well in order to win. I think that the game will be difficult for all the teams. The English team is the best in this group”.
-
In England a lot of Algerian supporters were seen singing and shouting “one two three viva l’algérie” and raising the Algerian flag.
-
Previously coach Saadane said he was not expecting a gift from the draw because all the teams which qualify to the World Cup are important.
-
“We will face strong teams. We respect them all and do not fear them. England is a big team. Concentration is very important to us. Our first ambition is to win the African Cup”.
- Sky news reported that Hassan Yebda has warned England not to underestimate Algeria in their World Cup group next summer.
-
Algeria will be one of England’s Group C opponents in South Africa, along with USA and Slovenia.
-
Fabio Capello’s men are expected to make it through to the last 16 at least but Yebda insists Algeria will be no pushovers.
-
Algeria have not appeared at the tournament since 1986 and Portsmouth midfielder Yebda is excited to be facing England.
-
“It’s just a fantastic draw for us,” he said in The Sun.
-
“Everyone thinks it will be easy for England as this is the first time Algeria have qualified for 24 years.
-
“But we will see about that.”
